Tour de France Heritage Loop — 13 km

The circuit devised for the 2022 Grand Départ. Start at City Hall Square and wind past Nyhavn, the Royal Palace and the Little Mermaid before crossing Inderhavnsbroen back to Christianshavn. Dedicated lanes throughout, so it suits newcomers and families.

Architectural BIG Tour — 22 km

For design lovers: the twisting facade of 8 House in Ørestad, the rooftop park at CopenHill — a ski slope on a working power plant — and a stop at Superkilen, where the public art celebrates the city's multicultural neighbourhoods. Bring a camera.

Dyrehaven and the Hermitage

Take the S-train to Klampenborg with your bike, then ride into the Deer Park beneath centuries-old oaks. Herds of deer roam freely and the 18th-century Hermitage hunting lodge sits at the top of the hill. Pack a picnic — this is one of the largest green spaces near the city.

Dragør via Amager Beach — 16 km

A coastal run south from Islands Brygge past Amager Beach Park and the Blue Planet aquarium to the historic fishing village of Dragør. The path hugs the Øresund coast, and lunch on Dragør harbour among the yellow-washed cottages is the natural reward.

Kalvebod Fælled

Panoramic Route 421 climbs the UNESCO-listed chalk cliffs of Møns Klint through forest and dark-sky parks, and the Løkken to Rubjerg Knude stretch in North Jutland runs along the dunes to a lighthouse slowly being swallowed by shifting sand.

Practical tips

• Renting: bike-share programmes offer e-assist bikes with built-in navigation, and rental shops across the city do half-day and full-day hire. Cargo bikes are widely available if you are riding with children or shopping.
